Convicted Killer Lies on Employment Application

This is a prime example for why employers should run nationwide criminal checks on all hired employees. In this case,  Joseph Mannino of Palmer Township in Pennsylvania was discovered to have lied on his employment application. He failed to notify Lehigh Valley Hospital that he was convicted of involuntary manslaughter and served three years in prison. Consequently he was fired and his nursing license was revoked.

Since this incident the hospital has begun running FBI fingerprint checks on all its employees. The report did pose one question which is something all employers should be aware of when running these type of checks. Are nationwide criminal checks enough to prevent from hiring the wrong person? Unfortunately there is no quick and easy answer to that but it helps that you partner with an employment screening company that is trustworthy and has a record of providing accurate information.
