Potential NBA Owner will receive the Rolls Royce of Background Screenings
According to the New York Times a billionaire Russian oligarch, Mikhail D. Prokhorov, has agreed to pay $200 million for 80% of the the New Jersey Nets and 45% of it’s future arena.
This may not be that surprising to you seeing as though wealthy individuals purchase franchises all the time. What is surprising is that, Prokhorov will be the first Russian oligarch to own part of a major American sports team. For those of you who aren’t aware what an oligarchy is, I went ahead and looked up the definition according to Wikipedia.
Oligarchy: A form of government in which power effectively rests with a small elite segment of society distinguished by royal, wealth, intellectual, family, military, or religious hegemony.
If you have any historical knowledge you would know that Russia has a reputation for being a country run by shady individuals following unconventional standards for ruling, compared to those of western countries. Public records are often scarce or incomplete. This makes it hard to run a complete and thorough international background screening on a high profile individual like Prokhorov. It is estimated that his full investigation will cost roughly $50,000 and will take six weeks to two months. This really is the Rolls Royce of background checks.
